Dhanamanjuri College of Teacher Education (DMCTE), Imphal got its’ birth from the first ever Education Department of the erstwhile D. M. College, in 1952. In 1972, after Manipur got its statehood on 21st January 1972, it enjoyed a separate existence as Teacher Training College, and later on it was renamed as Post Graduate Training College on 15th September 1972.
Acclaimed as one of the top B. Ed College in India by Indian Education.com, the D. M. College of Teacher Education was upgraded to the level of College of Teacher Education (CTE), as a token of recognition from National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE), New Delhi in 1997. It is the only government Teacher Education College in Manipur with efficient and experienced faculty members.
The College is imparting teacher education both to B. Ed and M. Ed students. The intake capacity for the B. Ed course determined by NCTE is 150 and that of M. Ed is 50.

D.M. College of Teacher Education is located among the educational hub of D.M. College Campus. The institutions located within this Campus are D. M. College of Science, D. M. College of Arts, D. M. College of Commerce, D. M. College of Teacher Education, Hindi Teacher Training Institution, SCERT, Imphal and J. N. Manipur Dance Academy. D.M. College of Teacher Education, Imphal is at a few metres distant from the northern gate of the famous historical Kangla Fort. It can be approached in its eastern and southern side by National Highway 39.
