Introduction: Community and School Contact Programme focus on partnerships between a school and its community. It integrates academics, youth development, family support health and social services and community development. Teacher must understand to do something for the betterment of community and s/he should be a good communicator between communities.

D.M. College of Teacher Education, Imphal organised Community and School Contact Programme on 10th August 2019 and on 31st August, 2019 for the academic session 2018-2019 in Kebol High School, Sagolband Tera, Old Age Home, Mongsangei. The main objective of the programme is to help the more needed area in the development of school and community.

Objective of the Programme: Community living camp (participation and organizing community awareness, extension programmes, tree plantation, social service, etc)

Maintaining school garden. The roles of teachers are more than class-room activities who provide possible help towards the community to maintain peace, harmony, and for the development society’s welfare.

Teachers are the closest friends of students. So, we should impart the knowledge acquired from the books to our community in action and as well as advice. The role of teachers are said to be moral and prudential. In my mind our greatest role is to impart moral education toward the community helping their immediate need and understanding their sentiments.

Programme Taken up: DMCTE organized Community and School Contact Programme on 10th August 2019 at Old Age Home (Mongsangei) and Kebol High School and concluded with a social service in the DMCTE College Campus on 31st August, 2019 for the Academic Session 2018-20. The DMCTE divided the teacher’s Trainees into two Groups. One group comprised of Radhakhrishnan House and Dewey House visiting Old Age Home and the second comprised of three houses (Tagore, Rousseau and Gandhi) contacting Kebol High School on the first day.

At the Old Age Home, the trainees took up social service and organized a function. As a part of the programme, various items of Foods and vegetable were provided as a gift to the Home from the College side. The food items include fresh fish, dry-fish, local rice, vegetables, oil, onion, garlic, etc.

As far as School Contact Programme is concern, three houses lend a helping hand for the Community in general and for the school in particular as a collective effort. At Kebol High School, DMCTE organized social service, medical camp and official function as a part of the programme of the day. At Kebol High school, the three houses – Tagore, Rousseau and Gandhi – did a social service for the betterment of the school atmosphere. DMCTE presented water tank, water jar, dust-pin, sports kits, and first-aid box and it was warmly received by the school Headmistress.

With the help of Director of Health Services, Manipur, Medical Camp was taken up on the same day. Specialist doctors in the field – physician, dermatologist, ENT, Ortho, dental, etc. and medical officer from Imphal West took the main role in the Medical Camp. Medicines and ambulance facilities are also made available as a part of the medical camp. Teachers, students, and local people enjoyed the special medical camp organized by the DMCTE. The programme concludes with an applause from the trainees, teachers and surrounding club members.
